
According to the preliminary results of the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections held yesterday, the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) achieved a significant victory by securing over 450 seats. The party gained its strongest foothold in island councils and Women’s Development Committees. However, the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) maintained its dominance in city councils, winning the majority of those seats as well as several mayoral positions. In total, the MDP secured more than 400 seats in this election. Additionally, independent candidates and other political parties also succeeded in winning a portion of the contested seats.
