The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources is currently evaluating proposals submitted for the development of sports fishing harbors across five strategic locations, as part of the government’s initiative to diversify the Maldivian fishing industry and enhance national revenue. The designated sites for these developments include K. Bochchufaru, V. Maadhiggaru Falhu, Gdh. Bolimathaidhoo, and Ga. Maafaru.
These hubs are envisioned to be more than just fishing locations; they will be developed as integrated facilities featuring fish stalls, cafes, restaurants, and a variety of recreational amenities. In conjunction with this infrastructure project, the government is also expediting the formulation of a comprehensive Sports Fishing Management Plan and the expansion and modernization of the national Fish Aggregating Device (FAD) network.
