
Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, has stated that the government is taking significant steps to ensure food security in the Maldives in response to evolving global challenges. The Minister highlighted that efforts to increase national storage capacity are progressing rapidly, alongside initiatives to diversify import sources beyond traditional markets. Furthermore, to ensure the seamless distribution of goods across all regions of the country regardless of the season, a shipping and logistics network named ‘Anka’ has been established and is currently being implemented. The Minister also noted that while there are currently no difficulties in importing 26 essential food items, the government remains committed to prioritizing proactive measures to safeguard national food security.
