Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has stated that the ministerial committee, established by the President to identify potential adverse impacts on the Maldives’ economy and security due to the conflict in the Middle East, has initiated significant strategic efforts. The Minister noted that the committee commenced its work shortly after the conflict began and has held five meetings thus far to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the evolving situation.

The Minister further reassured that, in order to maintain the peace and sovereignty of the Maldives, the country’s airspace will not be permitted for use by any nation to conduct military strikes, and any such requests would be strictly rejected. Additionally, given the nation’s high dependency on imports, the government is actively exploring alternative international markets beyond the Middle East to ensure the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities, including fuel and food.

Efforts are also underway to consult with airlines to mitigate potential disruptions to the tourism sector caused by the conflict. Furthermore, the government is closely monitoring the situation of Maldivian citizens residing in affected regions to provide necessary assistance. The administration’s primary objective is to remain prepared for shifts in the international landscape while ensuring national interests and the safety of its citizens.
