Ahmed Tariq, President of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), has stated that the successful conclusion of the Dhivehi Premier League, featuring 90 matches following a two-year hiatus, is a significant achievement.
Tariq noted that the recently concluded league was highly competitive, observing that players demonstrated peak performance throughout the season.
“I believe the adjustments made to the league structure regarding the relegation zone, automatic relegation, and promotion contributed to a highly competitive environment, especially as we headed into the final round. It was evident that every team played intensely to achieve their targets. We also saw remarkable turnarounds where teams at the bottom of the table secured successful results,” Tariq said.
He further emphasized that with national team players distributed across various clubs, the consistent conduct of the league and the football season would ultimately benefit the national squad.
Additionally, Tariq highlighted that this league stands as the most prominent tournament completed within the current sports calendar, which commenced on July 26, 2025. He also noted the increase in football activities, mentioning that the National Tournament has begun and is scheduled to conclude during the month of Ramadan.
The FAM President further added that several youth competitions are underway, including the Under-20 Diamond Jubilee Tournament for Male’ high schools and the Under-14 Youth Championship qualifiers, which features participation from 18 academies.
