Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has asserted that his team’s performance against Liverpool proves they are unbeatable when playing with a full-strength squad. He made these remarks following Manchester City’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield in the English Premier League.
“I am incredibly proud of the character and performance my team displayed in this match. It was a challenging encounter; everyone knows how difficult it is to face Liverpool at their home ground. However, my players performed exceptionally well, particularly with their composure on the ball. This result demonstrates that when we have everyone fit and available, we are an unbeatable side,” said Guardiola, who has led City to six Premier League titles in a decade.
City is currently navigating several injury concerns, specifically within their defensive line, with key players Ruben Dias, John Stones, and Josko Gvardiol sidelined. Due to these absences, the club secured two additional defenders during the recent transfer window. Following the match, the coach further noted that City’s ability to secure a win in the final 15 minutes, after Liverpool had initially taken the lead, was largely due to the strong leadership shown by the captain and the rest of the squad.
Erling Haaland scored the decisive winning goal for City. Speaking after the game, Guardiola reserved his highest praise for goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
“He made some outstanding saves, which kept us in the game. We fought for the win until the final whistle, and every time the ball broke through, ‘Don’ was there to save it. His performance was a huge inspiration for us,” the manager added.
Following this defeat, Liverpool sits in sixth place with 39 points from 25 matches. Manchester City remains in second place with 50 points, trailing league leaders Arsenal by six points.
