The Commissioner of Sports, Mohamed Thalal, has stated that the emergence of elite athletes across the Maldives is a direct result of the special priority accorded to sports development by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the CAVA Women’s League, Thalal highlighted that the government places significant importance on hosting international tournaments in the Maldives and establishing sports facilities in the atolls, in addition to the capital, Malé.
In this regard, efforts are underway to upgrade stadiums and courts to modern standards, alongside training athletes and building technical capacity with the assistance of foreign coaches. Thalal noted that these initiatives are increasing the number of talented players in the country and paving the way for the Maldives to host more international competitions. Furthermore, while wishing success to the two Maldivian teams competing in the ongoing CAVA Women’s League, he expressed his hope to see both teams compete in the final.
