As part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the capabilities of the Maldives National Defence Force, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the air station being developed in Sh. Funadhoo will begin its operations within this year. Delivering the Presidential Address, the President stated that work to expand the Coast Guard fleet is progressing rapidly. He noted that while three vessels were commissioned last year, an additional 17 vessels are scheduled to be brought into service this year. Furthermore, the naval ship donated by the Australian government is also expected to be commissioned within the current year. In terms of military infrastructure development, projects have already been initiated for the land reclamation of Girifushi, as well as the further development of the Addu Training Centre and Kalhuthukkala Koshi.
