The Deputy Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Hon. Ahmed Nazim, has departed for Karachi, Pakistan, to participate in the 7th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Asia Regional Conference and the 2nd CPA Asia and South East Asia Regional Conference.
During this official visit, at the Regional Executive Committee meeting scheduled for tomorrow, the Maldives Parliament will officially assume the presidency of the CPA Asia Region. The People’s Majlis will hold this regional presidency from the 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference through to the 71st Conference.
Hosted by the Provincial Assembly of Sindh, Pakistan, this year’s conference is themed “Parliaments of the Future: Reimagining Democracy through Trust, Inclusivity, Innovation, and Peace.” The sessions will focus on fostering discussions among regional nations to strengthen parliamentary systems and cooperation.
The Deputy Speaker is accompanied on this mission, which takes place from the 3rd to the 7th of this month, by the Member of Parliament for the Thimarafushi constituency, Hon. Ahmed Riyaaz, and the Senior Foreign Relations Officer of the People’s Majlis, Ms. Aishath Eman.
