Ahmed Saleem, the first President of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) and a distinguished recipient of the highest Order of Merit in the Foreign Service, presented his book titled “Memories of HRCM” to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu today.
The President officially launched the book during a meeting held this morning at the President’s Office.
The publication primarily focuses on the inception of the Human Rights Commission in the Maldives and reflects on Ahmed Saleem’s five-year tenure as its inaugural President. Furthermore, the book provides detailed accounts of significant historical events during the Maldives’ transition toward a democratic system.
The first Human Rights Commission in the Maldives was established by presidential decree in 2003, with Ahmed Saleem being among its founding members. He also served as the first President of the independent Human Rights Commission reconstituted under the new Constitution ratified in 2008.
This book is recognized as a significant contribution to the historical record of human rights in the Maldives and the institutional development of the state.
