According to the latest cargo statistics from Velana International Airport, a total of 89,163 tonnes of freight were handled in 2025, marking a 10% growth compared to the previous year. This figure includes 66,840 tonnes of imports and 23,323 tonnes of exports. Notably, the most significant growth was observed in transshipment cargo, with 16,372 tonnes of goods transported to other countries via the Maldives, representing a 22% increase.

While dedicated cargo operators completed 524 flights transporting 4,300 tonnes of goods, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) is actively working to further enhance these services. Key initiatives include the expansion of the ULD (Unit Load Device) storage area, the installation of additional X-ray machines to expedite cargo clearance, and the overall automation of services to improve operational efficiency.
