The official results of Egypt’s parliamentary elections, which spanned a period of three months, have been formally announced.
The conclusion of the election for the final 49 of the 568 elective seats faced delays due to required run-offs in several constituencies. Marked as one of the most protracted electoral processes in Egyptian history, the final results confirm that President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s administration has successfully maintained a clear majority in the House. This victory provides the government with the necessary legislative strength to potentially pursue constitutional amendments.
The Egyptian Parliament is composed of a total of 596 seats, consisting of the elected members plus an additional five percent of representatives appointed directly by the President. To implement any constitutional reforms, a two-thirds majority within the parliament is required.
Official data indicates a low voter turnout for this year’s election, with only 32.4 percent of eligible voters participating in the process.
