The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has announced that as part of an ongoing major anti-drug operation today, 10 locations have been searched and four individuals have been taken into custody.
Conducted under the banner of “Operation Alimagu,” today’s activities are concentrated across the Greater Male’ area and Gaafu Alif Atoll. This specialized operation is a strategic initiative by the MPS aimed at dismantling networks involved in drug trafficking and the subsequent laundering of illicit proceeds, ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.
Launched this morning, the current phase of the operation specifically targets individuals suspected of large-scale drug distribution and money laundering activities within Gaafu Alif Atoll.
Police officials confirmed that the operation remains active, with ongoing searches of properties linked to the suspects and the execution of all necessary law enforcement protocols to curb these criminal activities.
“Operation Alimagu” was officially inaugurated as a continuous series of enforcement actions on November 13th of last year. Since its inception, the operation has expanded to 39 islands across the Maldives, resulting in nearly 100 arrests to date.
