Seven New Resorts to Open in the Maldives

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has announced that seven new resorts are scheduled to open in the Maldives within this year.

According to the Ministry, these new developments will significantly boost the country’s overall bed capacity. The upcoming properties include internationally renowned brands, such as the Bulgari Resort in R. Ranfushi, Six Senses Kanuhura, and Jumeirah Maldives.

This expansion follows a successful previous year, during which six new resorts commenced operations. These included Mandarin Oriental Maldives in K. Bolidhuffaru, Soneva Secret in the H.A. Makunudhoo lagoon, and Neuhie at Digufaru in B. Atoll. Other notable openings included the five-star Barceló Whale Lagoon Maldives and RIU Palace Maldives.

Latest statistics from the Ministry of Tourism reveal that by the end of last year, the total number of operational resorts in the Maldives reached 178, bringing the total resort bed capacity to 44,697.

Geographically, Kaafu Atoll (Malé Atoll) maintains the highest concentration of tourist beds, with over 13,500 beds, accounting for 31% of the national total. Alifu Dhaalu Atoll follows with over 5,800 beds, representing 13% of the total capacity.

The past year was marked by significant achievements for the Maldivian tourism sector. The country welcomed over 2,240,000 tourists, reflecting an increase of 200,000 visitors compared to 2024.

Furthermore, tourism expenditure reached a record-breaking USD 5.4 billion last year, the highest ever recorded in a single year. This figure represents a 15.8% increase in tourist spending compared to the preceding year.
