Regulations Governing Tourist Dress Code in Inhabited Islands to be Amended

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that regulations are being revised to ensure that tourists adhere to social and community standards regarding attire and conduct as local tourism continues to expand across inhabited islands. These amendments aim to address the concerns raised by local residents and to safeguard the religious and moral values of the community. Furthermore, it has been decided that safari vessels must be anchored at a minimum distance of one kilometer from inhabited islands, with local councils tasked with monitoring compliance. To further enhance the local tourism sector, the government is also working towards installing USD ATMs in islands and introducing a “Halal Tourism” model, which prioritizes Islamic principles, across five regions of the Maldives.
