Mandatory Health Warnings Required for Sale of Tobacco Products

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has mandated that all tobacco products imported and sold in the Maldives must feature prescribed health warnings, effective July 28, 2024. Although the regulation was initially set to take effect on the 28th of this month, the enforcement date has been rescheduled to July. As the sale of tobacco products without these warnings will be strictly prohibited after July 27, vendors are urged to clear any non-compliant stock before the deadline.

Furthermore, revisions have been introduced to the registration procedures for tobacco products. Under the updated guidelines, different flavors of the same brand do not require separate registration; however, detailed information regarding these variations must be declared to the Maldives Customs Service during the importation process. Notably, if there are differences in the type of product, brand name, or country of origin, each item must be registered individually.
