First Six Days: Over 43,000 Tourist Arrivals

Recent statistics reveal that more than 43,000 tourists visited the Maldives within the first six days of the year. This represents a significant 14.6% increase compared to the same period last year.

According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, a total of 43,481 tourists arrived in the Maldives between January 1st and January 6th. This is a notable growth from the 37,928 arrivals recorded during the corresponding period in the previous year.

The highest number of daily arrivals during this timeframe was recorded last Saturday, with over 8,000 tourists entering the country.

Daily Arrival Breakdown for the First Six Days:

  • January 1: 5,929 tourists
  • January 2: 7,655 tourists
  • January 3: 8,082 tourists
  • January 4: 7,930 tourists
  • January 5: 6,136 tourists
  • January 6: 7,749 tourists

Russia emerged as the top source market during this period, contributing 9,137 tourists. Italy followed in second place with 7,047 arrivals, while the United Kingdom ranked third with 2,859 tourists.

In terms of arrival points, Velana International Airport (VIA) remained the primary gateway, processing 42,828 tourists. Maafaru International Airport followed as the second busiest entry point, welcoming 200 tourists.

Last year was a landmark year for the Maldivian tourism industry, achieving record-breaking milestones. A total of 2,246,516 tourists visited the country throughout the year, marking an all-time high.

Furthermore, international visitors spent a record-breaking USD 5.4 billion in the Maldives last year. This expenditure represents the highest amount ever spent by tourists in a single year, reflecting a 15.8% increase compared to the previous year.
