Maziya SRC’s head coach, Luisma Hernandez, has stated that the competitiveness of the Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League has significantly increased as teams have returned stronger following the international break.
Speaking to “PSM News” after Maziya’s 2-1 victory over United Victory, Coach Luisma noted that the transfer window during the international break allowed teams to recruit quality players, thereby elevating the overall level of competition in the league.
The coach highlighted that teams have now had sufficient time to finalize their squads and train together consistently. He observed that this has fostered better cohesion among players, which is now reflecting positively in their performances on the pitch. He further expressed his belief that these developments will bring progress and positive changes to Maldivian football.
Acknowledging that these shifts mean Maziya must work harder to maintain their position at the top of the table, the coach emphasized that his and the players’ primary responsibility is to ensure they remain in the top spot until the end of the season.
“Most teams have now been training with complete squads for about two to three months. Consequently, their performance has improved and the competition has intensified. Teams have entered the second round with new signings, which has raised the overall standard. This is beneficial for Maldivian football and will improve the quality of the league. While these changes make it more challenging for Maziya to defend its position, our objective is to finish the league at the top of the table, and we will work tirelessly to achieve that,” said Coach Luisma.
Despite the challenges in maintaining their lead, Luisma reaffirmed the team’s commitment to the goal. By the end of Match Week 13, Maziya holds the top spot with 37 points, having won 12 out of their 13 matches.
Odi Sports Club follows in second place with 29 points from 13 matches.
Each team has five matches remaining in the league.
