Mohamed Zahid, the President of the Elections Commission, has stated that the Commission will collaborate with various state institutions to implement the legal reforms necessary to enhance the Maldives’ multi-party democratic framework.
This initiative is structured into two distinct phases. The first phase involves working alongside state institutions and the People’s Majlis to introduce policy and legislative changes at a macro level. The second phase focuses on conducting public awareness programs at the island level in coordination with local councils.
The primary objective of these efforts is to curb detrimental practices within political activities, such as defamation and the incitement of hatred, while establishing a robust, systematic, and widely accepted democratic system in the Maldives.
