The Government of the Maldives has reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to the “One China Policy,” recognizing Taiwan as an inalienable part of the People’s Republic of China and falling under its sovereign jurisdiction.

In an official statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government emphasized that the Maldives continues to uphold its historical stance on the One China Policy. The statement explicitly noted that the Maldives recognizes Taiwan as an integral part of China’s territory.

The Ministry further highlighted that this policy has remained steadfast and unchanged since the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and China in 1972. This enduring position reflects the mutual respect for each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Furthermore, the statement underscored the Maldives’ adherence to the principles of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states and the importance of peaceful coexistence among nations.

The Maldives also expressed concern over attempts by certain parties to interfere in the internal affairs of China.

Highlighting the long-standing and robust partnership between the Maldives and China, the Foreign Ministry described the relationship as mutually beneficial. The Ministry concluded by noting that this partnership continues to foster sustainable development and contribute to regional peace and stability.
