Dhivehi passport services have been officially launched in H.Dh. Hanimaadhoo. Maldives Immigration announced that these services commenced on December 17th, as part of ongoing efforts to expand the availability of Maldivian passport services across the entire nation.

The government is actively working to strengthen the decentralized system and ensure that crucial services, previously provided centrally, become accessible from the islands. In line with this objective, efforts are underway to expand passport and ID card services, administered by Immigration, to various atolls. The strategic decision has been made to establish these services in at least one island within each atoll. Currently, residents of the atolls incur significant expenses by traveling to Malé to acquire passports and ID cards. The availability of these services in their local islands is expected to substantially alleviate the financial burden on citizens.
