President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that rental fines for the Sinamalé and Malé Hiyaa flats were waived during his tenure as the Mayor of Malé City. The President made this clarification during a meeting with residents of Galolhu, where residents had expressed concerns after the City Council had instructed them to pay the fines.
His Excellency emphasized that those fines had indeed been cancelled and that the City Council should not have proceeded with demanding their payment. He further requested the Deputy Mayor to bring this matter to the Council floor to ensure the implementation of the decision that was made at the time. Addressing the issues concerning the Sinamalé flats, the President affirmed that the Council is responsible for their upkeep and that the government would intervene to find the most suitable solution. The President also assured that a comprehensive solution would be brought to this issue, and a suitable response would be provided after consulting with relevant stakeholders.
