President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that his administration aims to bring about genuine progress in the fisheries industry. He made this remark during a meeting with fishermen upon his visit to R. Dhuvaafaru. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu highlighted that the government’s manifesto includes initiatives designed to address the concerns of fishermen. He emphasized the crucial importance of fishermen’s insights and participation in advancing this industry. The President affirmed that the government is committed to revitalizing the fisheries sector and assured that its development would proceed based on the feedback and consultations received from fishermen.

The President noted that efforts have been underway since day one to resolve the concerns faced by fishermen. He explained that some delays have been associated with foreign loans, but assured that practical work on many initiatives is now close to commencement.

The President further elaborated that certain projects require significant government expenditure, which accounts for some of the time taken. He stressed that this does not indicate any neglect of the industry whatsoever. “I do not wish to announce or initiate anything simply for the sake of it, if it cannot be sustained. I want to see genuine progress in this industry. There are many things I wish to convey in this regard,” the President stated.

The President reiterated that the highest priority in developing the fisheries industry will be given to addressing the concerns of fishermen. President Muizzu’s visit to R. Dhuvaafaru was to officially commemorate this year’s Fishermen’s Day, which is being held in Dhuvaafaru.
