This year’s Fishermen’s Day is set to be a vibrant and memorable celebration for fishermen, as stated by the Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Ahmed Shiyam. The national observance, hosted in R. Dhuvaafaru, will encompass a diverse array of activities spread over three days. Minister Shiyam has already arrived in Dhuvaafaru to participate in these forthcoming events.

The main ceremony for Fishermen’s Day, organized with extensive cooperation from the community of Dhuvaafaru, is anticipated to host a significant number of foreign diplomats, alongside the President and First Lady, and other high-ranking government officials.

The events, scheduled from December 10th to 13th in Dhuvaafaru, feature a fishermen’s bazaar, a food exhibition, a fish race, a children’s evening program, a fish cutting competition, a ‘rahvaru’ cooking competition, and the official Fishermen’s Day ceremony. Minister Shiyam reiterated that, through the collaborative efforts of the Dhuvaafaru constituency member, the island council, and its residents, this year’s Fishermen’s Day will indeed manifest as a truly grand and festive occasion. Annually observed on December 10th, Fishermen’s Day is a national tribute to acknowledge the diligent work of fishermen and to promote the advancement of the fishing industry. This year marks the 45th celebration of this important day.
