Under the Hulhumalé Phase 3 land reclamation project, a significant 30 hectares of land has been successfully reclaimed. The reclamation work for Hulhumalé Phase 3, which had previously been halted, recommenced on the 10th of last month. To expedite the project, two dredgers were deployed simultaneously from the 28th of last month. The Hulhumalé Development Corporation (HDC) has stated that with the utilization of both dredgers, the land reclamation work is progressing rapidly. Furthermore, HDC confirms that over 30 hectares of land has been reclaimed under this project to date.

The government is actively implementing swift measures and undertaking numerous projects to address housing-related challenges in the Malé region. These initiatives are directly overseen by His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The project, which has been awarded to Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMC), encompasses the reclamation of a total of 63 hectares. This work is being carried out with the assistance of a 22,000 CBM dredger from Boskalis. During a meeting with residents of Maafannu, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that the Phase 3 reclamation work is anticipated to conclude by the end of this year, with land plots becoming available for allocation thereafter.

The President further elaborated that upon the complete conclusion of the current reclamation work in this area, these two dredgers will subsequently be deployed for the Gulhifalhu reclamation project. It is estimated that the reclamation of Gulhifalhu will be fully completed within approximately two to three months. To mitigate the acute land scarcity faced in the Malé region, reclamation efforts exceeding 1600 hectares are currently underway across five different areas. While Hulhumalé Phase 3 is progressing, work is also underway to reclaim a total of 277 hectares in Gulhifalhu. This includes the 192 hectares initially planned for Phase 1, along with an additional 85 hectares decided by His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for further reclamation in that area. Furthermore, the reclamation project for Ras Malé has also been expedited.
