78 Pellets of Narcotics Found in Body of Deceased Man in Guesthouse

The Maldives Police Service has confirmed that narcotics were discovered in the intestines of a man found deceased inside a guesthouse in Hulhumalé on November 30th.

The individual found dead in the Hulhumalé guesthouse on November 30th was a 40-year-old Nepalese man.

Police stated that preliminary investigations revealed the deceased arrived in the Maldives with two other individuals on November 26th. These individuals checked into the guesthouse in Hulhumalé on the morning of November 28th after a stay in Maafushi, and his two companions subsequently departed the Maldives later that same day.

The police reported that no signs of external injury were visible on the deceased’s body. A CT scan conducted on the body, however, indicated the presence of narcotics in his intestines. Consequently, legal advice was sought from the Prosecutor General’s Office on the appropriate course of action, and the narcotics were surgically removed from the deceased’s body with the assistance of a doctor on the night of last Tuesday.

The police further clarified that the operation to remove the substances was not performed in a healthcare facility because the body was significantly decomposed, making such an operation impractical. The removal procedure was carried out by doctors under the guidance of specialist medical professionals. A total of 78 pellets were extracted from his body, weighing 818 grams.

The police explained that information regarding this case had not been released earlier due to the ongoing nature of the investigation. Efforts are currently underway to confirm all available information, identify all individuals involved, and locate any other persons connected to this matter.

The police have urged the public to refrain from spreading false information regarding this case and to share only accurate details when commenting on the matter.
