President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that one of the world’s largest hopper dredgers has begun operations to triple the speed of Rasmalé reclamation. The government had revealed last October that several large dredgers would be brought in to expedite ongoing land reclamation projects in the Malé region and various parts of the Maldives. While two of these dredgers have already commenced operations, President Muizzu today announced that the third dredger has also arrived in the Maldives and started work.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that the ‘Cristobal Colon,’ one of the world’s largest hopper dredgers, has commenced operations for the Rasmalé reclamation project. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu further added that this dredger will accelerate the Rasmalé reclamation work by threefold.

“Rasmalé,” a visionary project of the President, is being developed as the world’s first eco-city. In addition to Rasmalé, the government is also continuing the reclamation work for Hulhumalé Phase 3 and Gulhifalhu. Furthermore, numerous land reclamation projects across various islands are currently underway in different stages. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s aim is to ensure that all individuals without their own housing will have access to housing by the end of his term.
