Ibrahim Shiury, Managing Director of Visit Maldives Corporation, stated that tourism in the Maldives was successful even during this year’s off-season. Generally, when observing tourist arrivals in the Maldives, a large number of tourists do not visit during the off-season. Speaking on the “Hafthaa 104” program broadcast by PSM News to mark two years since the government took office, Ibrahim Shiury, Managing Director of Visit Maldives Corporation, said that the company is undertaking extensive efforts to promote the Maldives. He mentioned that they have been working to promote the Maldives through popular and well-known figures, and the results of these efforts are now visible.

Shiury stated that during this year’s off-season, there was significant growth in the number of tourists who visited the Maldives. He highlighted that a double-digit growth was achieved in this year’s off-season. “Normally, off-season does not see double-digit growth. We have seen single-digit growth in the past. This year’s off-season was very successful. We attribute this to the campaigns we conducted. It’s not just us; resorts in the industry are also doing a lot of work. Their marketing teams are also undertaking extensive efforts. I would say this is the result of collaborative work,” Shiury stated.

Last November, Visit Maldives launched “World’s Biggest Giveaway,” one of the largest campaigns ever conducted globally. This campaign is a year-long initiative. Visit Maldives stated that they are working to promote the Maldives in various parts of the world. Their main priority is given to the top 10 markets that send the most tourists to the Maldives. They also mentioned that activities are being carried out with a focus on emerging markets.

So far this year, 2 million tourists have visited the Maldives. Among these, the largest number of tourists came from China. Over 300,000 tourists have visited the Maldives from that country.
