Stelco has announced that the Maldives Police Service has launched an independent investigation into the fire incident that occurred at the old powerhouse in Hulhumalé. During the fire incident, which took place while resolving an issue with a switch at the old Hulhumalé powerhouse, a Stelco employee sustained burns and various injuries. Stelco states that after receiving initial treatment at Hulhumalé Hospital, the employee has now been transferred to ADK Hospital for further treatment. In a statement released by Stelco, it was mentioned that the company is closely monitoring all aspects related to the treatment of the injured employee, in coordination with the family. The company appealed for news not to be disseminated in a manner that could cause further distress to the family regarding this matter.
Stelco highlighted that they are taking necessary measures to identify the cause of the incident and prevent its recurrence. The company also stated that the Maldives Police Service has launched an independent investigation into this incident. Stelco affirmed that they will provide full cooperation to the police in this matter.
