President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government will develop one island from each atoll as a picnic island. He said this while speaking at a meeting with the people of Matidhoo. The President said that the feasibility study for this project is currently underway, and the practical work will begin very soon. Speaking at the meeting with the people of AA. Matidhoo, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that the most important promise for Matidhoo was to develop an airport along with land reclamation, and that the project was handed over to MACL for them to invest and operate. The President also said that this was an effort to fulfill the promise made to build the airport. In addition to this work, the President said that 26.5 hectares of land will be reclaimed for housing for the island’s residents.

The President said that this airport is a fully viable and 100% feasible project, and it will be easy for MACL to operate. He also said that it is a project that will benefit both the island and the atoll. “Everything needed for the airport. The runway, terminal, and all buildings – the full terminal will be completed within 30 months, and God willing, we will open it,” said the President. In his speech, the President said that the agreement for the halted project at Matidhoo School has been terminated and the work has been reassigned to MTCC to proceed. Shedding light on the halted work of the health center, the President said that although the company doing the work had been paid, it wasn’t completed. Therefore, he has decided to take the work away from that company and assign it to another company. The President also said that once the work is completed, the extra space at the health center will be used to improve the quality of services. “It has been decided to upgrade to a level where services can be provided to everyone coming to the island. The first thing is to complete the unfinished work. Secondly, to complete the work of a good quality health center,” said the President.

In his speech, the President noted that he had also promised to build a mosque in Matidhoo, and he said that they are ready to start the practical work by assigning a party to build a mosque with a capacity of 500 people. He said it would be a modern mosque using renewable energy and including classrooms and a library, and that the work would begin this year. Highlighting the sports sector, the President said that the handball court construction will be assigned soon, and practical work will begin within about two months.

The President said that road construction is also a presidential promise, and as Matidhoo is a developed tourist island, road construction work will be done next year according to the concept decided by the people. The President also said that the issue of coastal erosion in Matidhoo will be solved, and other development projects will proceed at a rapid pace. In his speech, the President also said that the government will develop one island from each atoll as a picnic island. The President also noted that many islands express concern about not having an area or island to go for picnics. “It’s very difficult for the people of the islands, there’s no opportunity, no place to go for a picnic with family. There’s also no place to take guests. So we are doing studies to develop 1 island for each atoll by the government. We will complete that work,” said the President.

He also said that this is an effort to empower the people and promote tourism. In his speech, the President said that he is currently working on taking the list of promises and fulfilling them, and that he will fulfill all the promises made during the presidential election in this term. “Every promise was made very seriously. This government will work seriously with good intentions,” said the President.

The President said that the government has no intention other than to deliver results, and that all work will be carried out at a rapid pace.
