The Sea-to-Air cargo service, a joint initiative by Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), facilitated the export of 633 tons of goods in July. This figures represents a significant 88% increase compared to the previous month.
During the past month, cargo was dispatched to 10 countries across the globe via six airlines. This achievement marks the highest volume of transshipment cargo processed in the history of Velana International Airport. Currently, 17 airlines have partnered in this service, which involves the re-export of sea freight via air transport. This initiative is a key priority of the government’s strategic efforts to diversify and strengthen the Maldivian economy.
