As part of the government’s fiscal austerity measures, 205 political appointees—including State Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and Political Directors—have been dismissed so far, according to Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef. He further stated that this process is ongoing and that additional staff will be removed in the future. Additionally, the Spokesperson highlighted that efforts to rightsize State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) are underway, noting that upon completion, the total number of staff reductions will exceed the number of individuals hired by the current administration.
