The Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihsan, along with the Bank of Maldives (BML), have confirmed that the letter circulating on social media, purportedly sent by the Ministry to BML, is a fabrication. Regarding the letter, which requested account details of individuals involved in foreign exchange trading, the Minister clarified that as the Ministry is not an investigative body, it would not issue such a request. Furthermore, BML stated that customer information is only disclosed in accordance with the law, specifically through a court order or an official request from an authorized investigative agency. While the government continues to implement measures to regulate foreign exchange and curb the black market, the Minister urged the public to refrain from creating such fraudulent documents in the name of state institutions.
