Maldives and India Discuss Strengthening Environmental Cooperation

On the sidelines of the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UNCCD held in Mongolia, the Maldives and India engaged in discussions to enhance collaboration in the fields of environment and meteorology. During the meeting between the Minister of Environment, Ali Shareef, and the Indian Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, key areas of focus included the implementation of advanced systems for climate risk assessment, joint efforts in protecting coastal areas, mangroves, and marine biodiversity, as well as strengthening technical capacity. Furthermore, during the conference, the Maldives advocated for prioritizing Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the allocation of international climate finance.
