President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a special bill will be drafted and submitted to the current session of the People’s Majlis to facilitate the implementation of the death penalty in the Maldives. The President stated that in an Islamic nation, the state does not have the discretion to withhold the execution of capital punishment once all judicial and Shari’ah-mandated legal proceedings have been exhausted. He further affirmed that his administration will proceed with the implementation of such sentences following the passage of this bill. Additionally, the President emphasized that this measure is essential for the establishment of justice and the maintenance of social stability within the country.
