
The Maldives Meteorological Service has reported that tremors from an earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale near India’s Nicobar Islands were also recorded in the Maldives. According to the Maldives Meteorological Service, reports of tremors were received from Male’ and Hulhumale’ following the earthquake that occurred at 23:41 Maldives time. The Meteorological Service also stated that the seismometer installed in GDh. Kaadedhdhoo recorded the effects of the tremor at around 23:48 Maldives time.
The Maldives Meteorological Service said that although tremors were felt due to the earthquake near the Nicobar Islands in the eastern Indian Ocean, it is not expected to pose any additional danger to the Maldives. According to the Indian Tsunami Early Warning Center, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 43 kilometers under the sea. The center also stated that there is no danger to any country in the Indian Ocean region due to this earthquake. Furthermore, no tsunami was generated.
