Spain’s Real Madrid has given their number 10 jersey to France’s captain Kylian MbappĂ©.
Spanish media reports suggest that this is a decision made with the club’s marketing strategy in mind.
“MbappĂ© is the face of Real Madrid. This is a big marketing plan. And it’s also a decision based on his performance on the field,” Spanish newspapers stated.
After giving him the number 10, Real will market this jersey under the tagline “KM10”.
The last player to wear Real Madrid’s number 10 jersey was Croatia’s captain Luka Modrić. After he left the club following 13 years, Turkey’s attacking midfielder Arda GĂĽler also expressed interest in the vacant number alongside MbappĂ©. However, Real decided to give the 20-year-old young player number 15.
Real Madrid’s number 10 jersey has been worn by some of the club’s famous legends. Notable among these are Portugal’s former captain Luis Figo and Germany’s Mesut Ă–zil.
Mbappé has shown excellent performance after moving to Real from PSG in the past season. In his first season, he has scored 44 goals.
