Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), has stated that the current President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu very skillfully connected the picture he painted during his time as a minister with the actual scene. He said this while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport.
Speaking at the ceremony, MACL’s Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed said that when he assumed office in 2023, he had to stop in the midst of emptiness in every sense. Although the walls of a building were built and waterproofed, there were still many tasks and challenges to open the place. When this government took office, only 30% of the new passenger terminal was completed. The remaining 70% was completed under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, according to MACL’s Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef.
“There was no way to provide electricity. There wasn’t even an electrical grid. No sewerage system. No way to drain water. The 12-megawatt electrical system needed for the place was created by the skilled hands of this airport. The fact that there was a building didn’t mean it could function, as the so-called Head of Standby road didn’t even exist. That’s a road without which a terminal cannot operate. Obtaining foreign funding was extremely difficult. However, a very capable hero took on these massive, challenging tasks, holding my hand,” said MACL’s Managing Director Shareef.
MACL’s Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed said that when the country’s new leader took over, the work on the new passenger terminal accelerated. He stated that President Muizzu very skillfully connected the picture he painted during his time as a minister with the actual scene.
“While this architectural marvel of this small nation remained stalled and half-finished for 10 years, the new leader came and changed the entire scene in a year and a half. He very skillfully connected the picture he painted as a minister with the actual scene. The Maldivian lion took the helm and first came to this port. Giving instructions like a father to a child, the nation’s leader kept saying how much he wanted to complete this airport, bring it into service, and make Maldivians happy,” said MACL’s Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef.
MACL’s Managing Director has acknowledged the hard work of the company’s employees in completing the new passenger terminal at VIA. He also stated that this work deserves praise.
