President: National Service Program Will Bring Further Progress to Security Services

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the National Service Program initiated by the government will become a task that will bring further advancements to the Maldives National Defence Force and Maldives Police Service.

The President made these remarks at the ceremony held to meet with the MNDF and Police on the occasion of Independence Day.

The President said that the services of the military and police are ones that every Maldivian should be proud of. He stated that any work done for the development of the police and military is a service rendered to the entire nation and all Maldivian citizens. The President said that the Maldives is a proud independent nation and that Maldivians will manage their own affairs.

Highlighting that this small nation surrounded by sea has the largest Exclusive Economic Zone, the President said that even when considering this area, the Maldives is among the countries with the largest maritime territory. “We will manage every square inch of this country ourselves. That’s the principle we accept. We should increase capacity and seek technical and resource assistance, that should be the policy. But having people come and stay in the Maldives is not a policy,” President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said.

The President said that the National Service Program initiated by the government will be a task that will bring great progress to these services once again. He has said that in this work to increase the participation of Maldivian youth in the nation’s progress, many Maldivian youth will emerge to strengthen the defense forces at the forefront.

The President said that everything the government does for the national defense force services is work done to keep the independence of the Maldivian nation in their own hands. And to maintain the peace and tranquility of Maldivians and safely pass it on to future generations.

“The goal is to make this environment a peaceful and tranquil one. The people to do that are you, the police and military. We will proudly do everything necessary for your progress with the highest priority,” President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said.

The President said that a lot of work will be done during this term to expand police and military services and to develop human resources.
