
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the Maldives and India share a centuries-old close relationship, and no one can weaken this bond. The President made these remarks while speaking at a state banquet held in honor of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In his speech, the President said that although this year marks 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and India, the connection between the two countries in various fields has existed long before that. He added that history bears witness to this fact, noting that a close relationship has developed through trade and other cultural aspects since ancient times. The President stated that there is no one who can weaken the relationship between the two countries.
The President said that India has always been an important partner in the Maldives’ development, and that the relationship is strengthening in areas such as security, health, trade, education, and other sectors. He highlighted that the Maldivian government’s goal is to build a sustainable, inclusive economy that empowers youth, and India is a country that can play an important role in this endeavor.
In his speech, the President noted that Modi is the second longest-serving Prime Minister in India, stating that this is a testament to his sincere national service.
