Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdullah Mutalib, has stated that the Housing Law currently submitted to the Parliament will provide a significant solution to the issue of fraudulent information submission in housing projects. It has been revealed through reviews conducted by the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Ministry of Housing that many people submitted false information in the most recent 4000 housing unit project. Speaking at the “Ahaa” forum, Minister Dr. Mutalib noted that many individuals submit false information with the intention of scoring more points in housing projects. For instance, in the recent 4000 housing unit application process, it was found that people had entered inaccurate information about their living conditions into the portal.
The Minister said that as a result, those who provide accurate information and are in the greatest need of housing lose their opportunity. He described this as a very unfortunate issue and stated that the Housing Law currently submitted to the Parliament by the government greatly considers finding finding a solution to this problem. “Those who know how to score more points on the form have included false information to get higher marks. This is evident. The government believes this is an issue that needs to be resolved through legislation, which is why the Housing Bill was submitted. This will allow for the establishment of a proper system for awarding points in housing allocation,” said Housing Minister Dr. Mutalib.

The Minister stated that housing projects should allocate homes based on a comprehensive approach that considers both living conditions and financial status. At this forum forum, a member of the public questioned the policy of awarding fewer points to individuals without children. Dr. Mutalib said that in line with the President’s pledge, as they work on reforming the point system for housing projects, they have already decided to consider the situation of people without children. He mentioned that a special criterion for awarding points to childless individuals will be established.
“We will create a system where points are awarded if a married couple has been childless for a certain period and has a doctor’s note confirming this. This is a situation that occurs through no fault of their own. This should not be a reason for them to be denied housing,” said Minister Dr. Mutalib. The Housing Bill is currently in Parliament. The government states that when this law is passed, it will resolve many of the major issues in allocating housing from government projects.
