A government official has stated that the rumors circulating about handing over any terminal of Velana International Airport to any party are false. The official made this statement in response to claims spreading on social media that the management of VIA’s VIP terminal has been decided to be handed over to a foreign company for a long-term period. Speaking to PSM News, the government official said that the talks about handing over the management of VIA’s VIP terminal to a Dubai-based company are baseless. He also stated that it has not been decided to hand over the management of any terminal of Velana International Airport to any external party.
The official noted that MACL always receives project proposals from various companies, mentioning that a proposal has been received from a Dubai-based company as well. However, he emphasized that no decision has been made regarding that proposal, and any such decision by the company would be made prioritizing the best interests of the company and the nation. In addition to the VIP terminal of Velana International Airport, there have been rumors in the media about plans to hand over Hanimaadhoo International Airport to a foreign party. However, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, has stated that no such decision has been made by the government so far.
