With the crucial FAM Congress to approve the constitution approaching, Club Green Streets has decided to support Ahmed Thoriq (Tom). The Maldivian football has been at a standstill for over a year and a half due to the FAM election dispute. Green Streets was one of the clubs that had been working against Tom until now. In a statement released tonight, Green Streets said they proudly announce their decision to support Tom in the upcoming FAM Congress on Friday and the forthcoming FAM election.

The club changed its decision after one and a half years, considering various aspects and concluding that this was the most beneficial course for Maldivian football. “We believe this is a crucial moment, and it’s time to encourage everyone to move forward together in unity for the future of Maldivian football,” stated Green Streets’ announcement. Green had been supporting FAM’s most recent president, Bassam Adeel Jaleel, until now. Although FIFA suspended him for nine months on corruption and administrative issues, that suspension has now ended.

Tom is a former striker of the Maldives national football team. He played exceptionally well in the 2008 SAFF Championship. He also showcased impressive performances with New Radiant Sports Club. Tom, who is the People’s Majlis member for the Mahibadhoo constituency, has also briefly served as the FAM president in 2016. He lost his position that time due to Bassam’s team.
