The Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, has stated that work on the new modern passenger terminal at Kulhudhuffushi Airport will begin very soon. The Minister said this while speaking on the “Ahaadhey Bunaanan” program of the Voice of Maldives. As included in the government’s 14-week plan, the biggest change has been decided to be made to Kulhudhuffushi Airport. Accordingly, considering the limited space of the terminal, lack of facilities, and public complaints about using the airport, a master plan has now been developed to build a completely new terminal with modern changes.

Responding to a question from a member of the public on the “Ahaadhey Bunaanan” program of the Voice of Maldives about the reason for the delay in the work of the new terminal at Kulhudhuffushi Airport, the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, said that changes need to be made to the work at Kulhudhuffushi Airport.

The Minister said that the delay in starting the work is due to difficulties in making the necessary changes and acquiring the required resources. However, Minister Ameen said that the work is continuing without interruption. “I also acknowledge that even if not at the most desirable speed, the work related to especially the terminal, fencing, and security at Kulhudhuffushi Airport is progressing. I would say that the work will begin very soon,” Minister Ameen said.

Kulhudhuffushi Airport is an airport that was hastily completed in 2018, just as the then-government was nearing its end. Due to the way the airport’s services are established, citizens have been obtaining services with great difficulties.
