
Two foreign fishing vessels operating in the Maldives’ Exclusive Economic Zone have been taken into custody by the MNDF Coast Guard. The MNDF stated that two foreign fishing vessels, suspected of operating illegally in the Maldives’ Exclusive Economic Zone, have been brought under the control of the MNDF Coast Guard vessel Huravee. The MNDF said that the two seized vessels belong to Sri Lanka. They also mentioned that these vessels were taken into custody on the 22nd of this month during an operation conducted to monitor the Maldives’ Exclusive Economic Zone.
The MNDF stated that efforts are currently underway to bring both vessels to Male’ in order to hand them over to the Maldives Police Service for further investigation.
