Many activities have been planned for public participation in connection with the 60th Independence Day of the Maldives. The activities planned to be carried out by the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage in relation to Independence Day have now been revealed. The special flag hoisting ceremony, which is included as part of the Independence Day activities, will be held at the Republic Square. The official Independence Day ceremony this time is set to be held in two parts. These are the official ceremony and the ceremony for awarding the National Award of Honor and Recognition.

In addition, among other activities organized by the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage in connection with Independence Day, a short film festival is scheduled to be held in collaboration with the Maldives National Center for the Arts (NCA). A photography competition open to the public will also be held. Furthermore, the government offices and companies’ vessel parade, which has been held in previous years, is also set to take place this year.

In addition to these activities, field events have also been planned in connection with Independence Day. Four schools, along with the Ministry of Culture, will participate in these activities held at the Republic Square. While an essay writing and drawing competition will be held in collaboration with schools, a street march by school cadets in connection with Independence Day is also scheduled to take place. The ministry stated that preparations for this march have already begun.

As this year marks the 60th anniversary of independence, the Ministry of Culture is currently evaluating the logos submitted for the opportunity to design a logo for general use this year. The activities carried out by the government in connection with Independence Day are events that generate great interest among children and families.
