Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has stated that the situation of Maldivians living in the Middle East is being closely monitored. The Minister made this statement in a post shared on social media regarding the ongoing unrest in the Middle East. The situation in the Middle East has become highly volatile following the attacks launched by the Jewish Zionist state on Iran last week. In response to these attacks, Iran began targeting Jews, which led to America, the biggest supporter of Jews, also launching attacks on Iran this week.
With the American attacks on Iran, Iran retaliated by attacking a U.S. military base in Qatar. Following these attacks, Qatar and some Middle Eastern countries closed their airspace. In a post shared on social media regarding this matter, the Foreign Minister stated that during this tense period in the Middle East, the situation of Maldivians living in countries in that region is being closely monitored by the ministry and its missions. The Minister has also urged Maldivians living in and currently visiting these countries to pay special attention to this situation.
Furthermore, the Minister appealed to follow the guidelines provided by the governments of countries experiencing unrest and those closing their airspace. Although some Middle Eastern countries closed their airspace following Iran’s attack on the U.S. military base in Qatar, they have now reopened it.
