Minister of Sports and Fitness Abdullah Rafiu has said that a skill exchange program is set to be held between the English club Liverpool and the Maldives. The Maldives was designated as Liverpool’s “Official Tourist Destination Partner” under a campaign lasting three years and six months, aimed at increasing the reach of the Maldives tourism brand and encouraging more tourists to visit the Maldives. The campaign will also include activities such as establishing a Liverpool academy in the Maldives, strengthening sports tourism, and enhancing destination branding.

In a special interview with PSM News, the Minister said that starting something in a good way is something that will open doors in many ways. He has also said that many people knowing about this in various ways is a path that will open up for football as well as other sports. In addition, the Minister has noted that this is a way for Maldivian football to be promoted in the international arena. “We have paved the way to establish training facilities. Along with that, we are set to carry out a talent exchange program between the Maldives and Liverpool,” Rafiu said.

The Minister Rafiu had previously stated that discussions are underway for Liverpool’s emerging player teams and veterans teams to come to the Maldives to play matches.
