The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has tonight condemned the spreading of false information about the agency. NSPA issued this statement as some media outlets were reporting that NSPA was arranging the rent for the building housing the newly launched channel “MM TV”. These media reports claimed that NSPA had rented four floors and was paying hundreds of thousands of rufiyaa in rent, with two floors being used by NSPA and the other two given to the TV station.
In a statement issued by NSPA, they said that false information is being spread about the agency. The statement said that the transaction to find a building to run NSPA was conducted between the Finance Ministry and the agency according to established rules and procedures. It also stated that this information is publicly available on the Finance Ministry’s platforms as public information.
The NSPA statement said that the recruitment of staff needed to run the agency and the assignment of responsibilities to these staff were done within the established procedures. “We condemn the spreading of information that creates concern and doubt among the public about such an institution related to social protection of citizens and about the integrity of this institution’s employees. We also inform that complaints about those who spread such information will be submitted to the relevant authorities,” the NSPA statement said.
Furthermore, NSPA has called on the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to conduct an independent investigation into the claims being made that raise questions about the integrity of NSPA and its employees, and to disclose the details of these matters to the public.
