President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu today reaffirmed that the Maldives will remain a participant in Palestine’s efforts to secure the right to live with justice and peace.
He reiterated this in a special message given on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
In the President’s message, he noted that the support given by the Maldives for Palestinian rights is shared by all citizens living in different parts of the Maldives. His message also highlighted the oppression, corruption, and loss of homes that different generations of Palestinians continue to face to this day.
“Every day that reminds us of the injustice, oppression, and hardships endured by our Palestinian brothers and sisters is a day that strengthens and renews our resolve to stand with the Palestinian people. The injustices committed against these people are a stain on our shared history,” the President said. He has called on the international community to unite and use their political and economic power to immediately stop selling weapons to Israel and hold those responsible for war crimes accountable.
Noting that it has been over 75 years since the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has been playing an important role for Palestinian refugees, the President requested all countries to support the sensitive work being carried out by the agency.
“The inhumane massacres and actions of Israel, repeatedly violating international laws, international human rights laws, and humanitarian laws, are not only an attack on the Palestinian people. It is an attack on the interconnected system of countries spread across different parts of the world. The international community must protect the rights of the Palestinian people and hold Israel accountable,” the President said.
The President stated that the Maldives believes there is nothing more important than the work being done for the freedom of the Palestinian people. Furthermore, he said it is undeniable that Maldivians consider the struggle of the Palestinian people as their own, and assured that Maldivians will remain steadfast in raising their voice before the world in the work to bring justice and freedom to the Palestinian people.
The President concluded his message by saying that a sustainable solution to this issue can only be achieved by establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. In a post shared on his official X account today on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, the President also expressed his full support for Palestine.
